Former Cerritos catcher signs with Mets

Former Cerritos College catcher Rod Barajas played with the Texas Ranger from 2004-06.

Former catcher/1st baseman Rod Barajas has signed a one-year, $500,000 contract with the New York Mets.

In his 11-year career, he has played for world champion Arizona Diamondbacks (1999-2003), Texas Rangers (2004-06), Philadelphia Phillies (2008) and the Toronto Blue Jays (2008-09).

Barajas played for the Cerritos College baseball team in the 1994-95 seasons where he was awarded 1st-team All SCC selection as a designated hitter and 2nd team his sophomore year as 1st baseman.

He was also one of the captains on the team his sophomore year when the Falcons last made it to a state championship series.

Cerritos would go on to lose that series against Santa Ana.
